Torino Jazz Festival 2025. Calibro 35

Calibro 35, starting from their research on Italian soundtracks of the golden age, in fifteen years of activity have established themselves as a reference for the national and international alternative scene, producing eight albums and signing several soundtracks or special projects such as the one dedicated to Ennio Morricone.   Today they are sampled by hip hop heavyweights such as Jay-Z, Dr. Dre and Timbaland and share the stage with artists such as Thundercat, Sun Ra Arkestra, Muse and many others. Colliva, Martellotta, Gabrielli and Rondanini see themselves as ‘robbers in the bank of jazz’: you go in, grab what you can and run away, losing your pursuers and then stop, take off your balaclava, open your duffel bags and find a lot of valuable stuff to recycle inside. There is the groove, the interaction between musicians and improvisation, there is the search for sound.   Jazzploitation rediscovers the repertoire of artists and labels that were once mistreated but have now become cult favourites: from Idris Muhammad to Grover Washington Jr., from Kudu to CTI.
