The larch of the Piz valley is a truly impressive specimen. It stands 23 metres tall and has a circumference of no less than 6.60 metres at the height of a man's chest. It was hard to find documentation and historical references about this splendid tree. Considering the dimensions reached and the characteristics of its location, it is estimated that the tree could be at least 650 years old. Undoubtedly, it is a specimen that has been well known for centuries and present in the popular memory of the place. It has long been used as an orientation point for mountaineers and hikers who tackle the mountain on foggy days. A wooden sign indicating 27 VIII - 25 X 1936 is currently displayed alongside it. As it belongs to a very long-living species, which can reach and exceed 1000 years of age, it can be expected to have a long life ahead.
