The Castello (Castle), which stands out majestically along the silhouette of the hills, creates a very effective chromatic continuation with the landscape. The structure, in fact, was built with terracotta and bricks covered with Monferrato earth which testify to the colors and tones of times past. The architectural structure reflects the necessity of the Marquis Faa to respond to the territory’s defensive and urban needs while at the same time offering a symbol of their social status. The western façade has an elegant entrance where, by a two-railed staircase, one reaches the winter garden. On the second floor, instead, decorated with exposed brick, there are two hanging lateral towers. Completely different is the southern façade, which in the game of window evolution, narrates the structure’s story from fortress to civil palace. Inside, paintings and precious stucco works decorate the halls, among which, the “Sala delle Feste” should be mentioned with its lively and intensely colored frescoes representing mythological pagan jubilation. Also interesting are the “Primo Salotto” and the “Paradiso”, intricately frescoed with biblical and religious themes. Inaccessible to the public is, instead, the Archivo Segreto (Secret Archive) where numerous rare editions from the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries are kept and a precious collection of parchments from the Faa family, the owners of the castle for more than four-hundred years.
