Quinto is one of the few towns on Vercelli's plains to be dominated by the superb towers of a medieval castle. In 1427, after definitively leaving the Savoy territory, the hamlet of Quinto was put under the jurisdiction of Vercelli and the Avogadro family who, taking advantage of a period of peace, saw to the reconstruction of the severely damaged stronghold. The fortress, with its four angular towers and one square tower, also had the use of a draw bridge and of a small fortress. Among the most ancient structures in Vercelli, the Quinto Castle still has the Romanesque Chapel di San Pietro with its single rectangular nave, which was decorated with frescos in the 15th century, and which was part of the original ancient structure. The present day structure has a rectangular layout and can be reached through two carriage gates – the more interior of the two is crenellated and has a drawbridge. One of the oldest parts of the castle is the quadrangular tower that is a walled construction with Guelph crenellation. The angular cylindrical towers - of which there are only three - rebuilt during the 15th century, instead have beautiful drains from the brackets and Ghibelline crenellation. The castle (Castello di Quinto Vercellese) and its farm land, after the extinction of the Avogadro family, went first to the Count Casimiro Avogadro di Quinto Foundation and then to the Town of Vercelli in 1985.
