The church, which was originally designed by Giacomo Soldati in 1583 on the order of Carlo Emanuele I, saw Ascanio Vittozzi take over its design from 1610, even if it was eventually accomplished by Carlo di Castellamonte. The building (square, with protruding chapels) is undoubtedly in a mannerist style while the superior registries are in an octagonal shape, displaying the different phases of its design. The interior seems to be characterised by the strong overhanging nature of the eight pillars which support the octagonal tambour with a strong effect of light and shade. In 1802, the dome was replaced by a stonework cover with the result of the reduction of the vertical nature the structure had assumed when designed by Vittozzi.
