The Horse chestnut is an exotic species, native to Eastern Europe, introduced in the rest of Europe for ornamental purposes, thanks to its majestic bearing and splendid spring blossom. The tree in Serravalle is an interesting specimen with interesting landscape value. The trunk, with a diameter of a little less than one metre at chest height, is surmounted by three large assurgent branches. The tree stands in the centre of Serravalle Langhe, an ancient village which takes its name from its position at the centre of four ridges from which the smaller valleys branch off, hence the name “serra le valli” (lock the valleys).
