Founded in 1858 by confectioners Ferdinando Baratti and Edoardo Milano, the famous Caffè Baratti & Milano is one of the most important historic cafés in Turin. In 1875 the company moved into the Galleria Subalpina, in the central Piazza Castello, soon becoming a prestigious meeting place for the bourgeoisie and intellectuals such as D'Azeglio, Giolitti and Luigi Einaudi.
The venue, as it looks today, is the result of an expansion carried out in 1909 on a design by Giulio Casanova and Pietro Fenoglio, with the collaboration of the great sculptor Edoardo Rubino. The result is a very elegant environment characterized by a wide use of mirrors, marbles, bronzes, gilding, stuccoes and mosaics that give the Caffè Baratti & Milano a rich architectural and artistic profile.
Today, Caffè has retained an artisanal soul that is expressed with the great refinement of the quality of its master chocolatiers, the exclusivity of many products and the elegance of its packaging. Baratti&Milano is one of the oldest and most prestigious pastry laboratories in Italy. Among the most popular desserts are the mignon pastry, the Royal Cake, the Barattina, the Baratti Cake and the Gianduiotto Cake.
