The Caffè Mulassano is a historical cafe in Turin, located in Piazza Castello. It was designed by engineer Mr. Vandone, together with the best craftsmen of the time, in Art Nouveau style.
The counter is built with onyx stone from Numidia with bronze decorations, the ceiling is coffer ceiling of wood and hide and the walls have mirrors and wooden panels, with wood-carved decorations.
In the past, many important personalities went there, including writers Soldati, Arpino and Guido Gozzano, who loved this place very much. Macario found inspiration for his characters. Its reputation was such that even the king and queen did not disdain coming to drink coffee at Mulassano's, which is why, until 1926, the café was garnished with heavy red curtains to mark the inaccessible space reserved for royalty.
This is where the famous tramezzini were invented.
