The Rocca of Cavour

In the plain between Saluzzo and Pinerolo, like an island suspended amongst clouds, rises the Rocca di Cavour, a rocky outcrop that spans over 47 hectares and is a large part of the 71 hectare natural reserve.

It is an area of great naturalistic interest, characterised by a flora of particular importance, rich in bird life and special geological features.

The millennial history of the site is proven by rock carvings, paintings and findings of Celtic and Roman origin. On the summit of the rock there are still evident remains of the castle destroyed in 1690 by French general Nicolas de Catinat. The characteristic Pilone della Rocca built in 1931 and 15 meters tall, which is home to a statue of the Madonna made with Carrara's white marble, is still very visible.
