The Galliate Castle is one of the most important and best preserved examples of Sforza's military architecture; it has a rectangular shape and is equipped with four corner towers and two central towers to control access. Chosen as the second ducal residence by Galeazzo Maria Sforza, it was transformed into a noble court between 1475 and 1476 by the Milanese architect Danesio Maniero. The works, interrupted for the death of the Sforza, were completed by Ambrogio Ferrari for Ludovico il Moro only in 1496. Over time, it has undergone some transformations; at the end of the eighteenth century it was divided between several owners and it was renovated. Most of the building is today a municipal property.
