LE TERRE BALLERINE

Near Ivrea, in Montaldo Dora, there is a very particular forest, whose lands are called: "Terre ballerine" (dancing lands).

What is the origin of this curious name? The geological structure of the area consists mainly of peat, which gives the surrounding terrain an incredible elasticity.

The "Dancing Lands" originated after the drainage of Lake Coniglio, on whose bottom plants, dead animals and other organic material were deposited over the centuries, so that walking over this terrain in continuous movement makes you also connect with a past rich in history.

But how was the peat formed? In the absence of oxygen, the lake first became a pond, then a swamp and eventually a peat bog.

For those who want to experience "dancing with nature", this is certainly an ideal place.
