Typical of mountain villages, very common in the Val Grande and the Valli di Lanzo, the "cappelle della posa" are usually placed along valley roads at the outlet of mule tracks that descend to the villages.
They are characterised by being very small and having no façade, most often replaced by an iron or wood gate.
They were used to offer shelter to the porters during the transfer of the dead from the villages to the capital, where the burial would take place.
Transporting the bodies to the village was a very tiring activity, necessitating numerous stops and changes of porters. This is why, in many cases, these tiny chapels were built on the mule tracks that descended into the village.
