According to a famous local legend of Lake Maggiore, many centuries ago, on the Monte Capio, lived the Snow Queen.
The woman was among the most beautiful in the world, but she led a very solitary life, since her home was surrounded only by the wildest nature.
One day, a hunter fell so much in love with her that he decided to climb the mountain to reach her. During the climb, however, the man accidentally fell into a cliff and died.
The beautiful queen, desperate, began to cry and, it is said that, the many tears shed soon formed streams, still visible today both from the mountain and from the shores of the lake.
Close to the streams, there is also another legendary place, the waterfall of the damned. It seems that right there, in those waters, two mountaineers, dead while trying to steal some flocks, are still wandering in search of rest.
