LA EX STORICA SEDE DEL VERMOUTH, IL PALAZZO ASINARI DI SAN MARZANO

In Turin Via Maria Vittoria 4 there is one of the most beautiful palaces in the city, this is Palazzo Asinari di San Marzano formerly Palazzo Carpano, built on behalf of Marquis Asinari di San Marzano in 1684.

In the early 1900s, the history of this wonderful palace was intertwined with that of a renowned brand born in Turin: Carpano vermouth. The flavoured wine was invented in 1786 by Antonio Benedetto Carpano, who produced it in a workshop which was located in front of the Royal Palace. Over the years, production became industrial, but with the Carpano family extinct, the workshop closed until a prominent industrialist from Turin took over: Silvio Turati.

In 1946 Turati also bought the Asinari palace in San Marzano and made it the headquarters of the Carpano. When Turati died in 1980, Carpano vermouth production was transferred to Milan and the brand sold to the Branca Brothers Distillery Group.
