From the hamlet of Usseglio, in Margone, a town nestled in the Valli di Lanzo, you can reach Malciaussia through a path that crosses most of the tracks belonging to the Decauville. This is an old narrow-gauge railway, whose tracks were made up of removable elements. Made of sections of tracks and rails mounted on metal crosspieces, it could be used on any route. It was the engineer Paul Decauville who patented it in 1873.
In Usseglio, in the late '20s, a project was started to channel the water in the area into three large artificial reservoirs. The Decauville was used to facilitate the movement of materials from Lake Malciaussia to Lake Dietro la Torre. The old village of Malciaussia was abandoned and submerged by the homonymous large artificial lake.
