There is a little gem hidden in the Porta Nuova station, the Gonin hall, designed in 1864 as a first class waiting room to accommodate the royal family waiting for the train.
The interior decorations and frescoes are the work of some painters of the Savoy family, including Francesco Gonin.
Some paintings illustrate the elements of Nature, Water, Earth and Fire, portrayed in the form of mythological characters. At the corners of the room there are the four continents, represented by geographical maps supported by hovering angels.
There are also beautiful eighteenth-century pieces of furniture and a magnificent Murano glass chandelier.
Unfortunately, the Gonin hall can only be visited on some extraordinary occasions, such as the FAI Spring Days.
