CASA CANTAMERLO

In an alley not far from Avigliana Castle is an elegant pink palace with a splendid, tall tower: it is Casa Cantamerlo, a 19th-century neo-Gothic villa rebuilt on a pre-existing building formerly used as the canonical house of the parish of Saints Giovanni and Pietro.

Inspiring the name of the house was the blackbird painted on the vault of the tower, the wrought-iron dragon placed above the front door, and the Roman stele representing a prisoner, walled in the foyer after being found in the nearby hamlet of Malano.

The villa was purchased by the poet Norberto Rosa in 1860, but he resided there very little because he unfortunately died two years later.
