UNESCO has acknowledged Biella as "Città Creativa" (Creative City). The decision was reached in Paris on 30 October and rewards the outstanding commitment of all those throughout the area who have worked so tirelessly and synergistically to achieve a common goal.
Biella sees the UNESCO Creative Cities Network as a unique opportunity to promote its specific identity and vocation, together with its territory, by means of cooperative projects: the sphere of reference is the Creative Cities of Crafts&Folk Art, referring to the heritage of knowledge and expertise in manufacturing ( specifically wool), recognising this as the driving force behind its overall cultural development. Some of the most important fashion brands in the sector were founded in Biella and a huge amount of intangible and creative heritage on the subject is still at the heart of life in the city.
