TEATRO ALFIERI DI TORINO

The building, in the nineteenth-century Piazza Solferino, was built in the years 1855-1858 designed by the architect Barnaba Panizza. Destroyed several times by fires, it has always been rebuilt maintaining the original structure, particularly in the façade, crowned by a large triangular pediment. There were reparations by Panizza himself, who in 1877 redesigned the hall, by Pietro Fenoglio the expansion of the entrance (1901), and by Eugenio Mollino for a new exhibition (1927).

But it is the damage suffered during the Second World War that will lead to the need to almost completely reconstruct the theater, as it is still used today.  Born to host lyric performances, theater of prose and equestrian shows, the Alfieri has seen over the years alternate on the stage the major companies and well-known Italian and foreign artists.

The recent renovation (2001-2002) has given back to the audience a structure divided into a large hall for theater performances and two cinemas.
