The Castello (Castle) di Uviglie sits on a splendid spot that dominates Monferrato, just in front of the Rocca (Fortress) di Rosignano, a few kilometers from Casale Monferrato. The structure’s original core was built around a central, square tower between 1239 and 1271. The castle is private property at present, but it is possible to make an appointment to visit the structure. One part of the castle is set up as a restaurant and the other part houses an agricultural business that produces excellent DOC wines. The Castello di Uviglie is an imposing structure bordered by a park with rare and exotic plants and which, in the past, has welcomed such illustrious guests as San Luigi Gonzaga, San Giovanni Bosco, and the family if the Negus of Ethiopia. A visit to the little church consecrated to San Eusebio is also enjoyable. The little classical temple, built in 1700’s, with an octagonal layout and a higher central body, is striking as well.
