Located at the top of the highest hill in Orsara Bormida, the Castello di Orsara Bormida is essentially characterized by three towers: the oldest is the square tower, followed by the octagonal one and the cylindrical one, both smaller and built later. The towers can be seen as an integral part of the protective wall that surrounded the city. Inside the walls, is a garden enriched with age-old trees and flowering hedges. Built in the 13th century, the castle was enlarged in the 15th century and later turned into a residential manor. The furnishings, which date back to the 16th century and 17th century, have remained intact: rooms with majolica flooring are furnished with period pieces and paintings, while frescoes - with their noble stems - testify to the line of families who have lived here. The cellars, once prisons, characterized by barrel and groin vaults, now house an agricultural business which produces quality DOC wines such as Barbera del Monferrato, Dolcetto d'Acqui, Brachetto, Chardonnay, and Muscat.
