CASTELLO DI MONTALDEO

An ancient manor filled with stories and legends, it was destroyed and rebuilt several times during the Middle Ages. During the 15th century, the people of Montaldeo themselves attacked and killed the members of the Trotti family, guilty of tyranny and abuse of power. In the castle’s underground areas, a true and proper labyrinth, it is possible to visit the prisons and see the instruments of torture from that period. According to popular legend, the ghost of Suor Costanza Gentile, kidnapped by one of the lords of the castle, wanders about through the castle’s dungeons.
