This is the largest and best known castle in the province of Novara. Built between 1476 and 1496 by Galeazzo Sforza following the design of the military architect Ambrogio Ferrari, it is today a rather low and massive rectangular structure with four towers placed at the corners and two at the entrance to reinforce the draw bridge. Surrounded by a large moat and wall, it has kept its beautiful Ghibilline crenellation which aesthetically brings together the entire structure. Inside the castle are the city library, the Museum of Modern Art, and exhibition halls for shows and conventions.
