The little town of Borgomale, known to food-lovers for its gastronomic specialties and for its sparkling Dolcetto wine, has an ancient castle which was built, beginning in 1429, most probably on the remains of an ancient tower. It is a huge, imposing structure, a fortress built obviously for defensive reasons. When, in 1630 after peace with Cherasco, Borgomale fell under the dominion of the Savoy, the castle became nothing more than summer home for the Savoy nobles.
